Higher Education & Careers Guidance

ISL provides a comprehensive range of resources, workshops and access to experts to guide our MYP and Diploma College students through career pathway exploration and higher education support. 

From Work Experience to the Alumni Mentoring Programme, where former students provide advice to our current students, we ensure higher education and career pathways are well supported for all our students.

Grade 9 Careers and Guidance 

In grade 9 the curriculum focusses upon general career guidance and key skills, which is presented throughout a yearlong program of activities. 

This includes:  

  • Organisation and communication workshops delivered by tutors and the MYP coordinator. 
  • Comprehensive CV writing guidance delivered by external experts in careers guidance. 
  • Mock interview sessions with leading business people representing many work sectors. 
  • A weeklong work experience within an industry, either self-organised or selected from a variety provided by the school. 

Student Agency

Student voice is at the heart of everything we do at ISL.

Our students engage with global issues ranging from human rights and conflict to the environment and governance, learning about the ways in which they can create positive change in the world with self-initiated projects at a local and international level. 

Grade 10 Higher Education Pathways

Grade 10 build upon the foundations in careers that have been developed in Grade 9.  The aim is to prepare for a smooth transition into higher education and Identify some further education pathways that can lead them to their career goals. 

Higher education guidance is integrated within the schools PHSE curriculum and details the many options available and the paths that they may take. 

Additionally, we also provide: 

  • Termly one-to-one guidance and advice interviews with the school senior leaders. 
  • Workshops run by the school’s dedicated Higher Education Advisor. 
  • Transition open evenings.
  • Visits to the diploma college campus. 
  • A week of activities and course familiarisation at the schools Diploma College campus.
