A Midsummer Night's Dream

ISLMapLarge.gif
Across the Globe

Four love-drunk teens, escaped from the confines of an oppressive regime, caught in a dispute of increasingly magical proportions. A posse of wannabe actors determined to put on a play against the odds. The Fairy Queen and King at war, and one wild spirit hell-bent on causing as much havoc as possible. What could possibly go wrong?

The Drama department has finally resumed live performances and the Grade 6 students were so proud to present their production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, to an audience of enchanted PYP Grade 5 students and their teachers. For 40 minutes, the young thespians trod the board and declaimed iambic pentameters with fiery fervour. Our cast worked very well as an ensemble and our lead actors, Ananya as Helena, Victoria as Hermia, Jasper as Lysander and Leaf as Demetrius played the four lovers with humour and passion. Amaury was stunning as the mischievous Puck and gave a round and dynamic performance. Jake played Bottom, who becomes Titania's (played by the talented Alice) accidental love interest.

It was so important that we could bring back theatre and live art within our walls although quite ironically, our performance took place during the Classroom without Walls week! The whole cast was fabulous and we are pleased to share with you the recording of this performance.

This production is a collaborative work between the English, Design and Performing Arts. We had live music thanks to Mr Christie’s class, which brought an ethereal element to the production. The set that we used was entirely designed by the students, under the skilful direction of Ms Gastaldi. The design students have worked incredibly hard to make props, the set and the costumes (Lysander’s outfit was on the sewing machine an hour before the show started!).

A huge thank you to all the teachers involved and most importantly, we would like to congratulate all the Grade 6 students once more!
