A Special Remembrance Assembly

We had a moving Assembly on Wednesday in which Earth 1, assisted by their tutor Ms Mohamed Yusuf, explained to us about the meaning of the poppy and its significance for Remembrance at the time of year. The tutor group carefully explained how the use of the poppy resulted from the First World War (1914-18), and outlined the various ways it is used to remember those who have served others. A key aim of this Assembly was to prepare students for our special Remembrance event this coming Monday, so that all our MYP students understand why we remember those who have served others, often at personal cost. Students were invited during the Assembly to think of anyone in their families, or known to them, who has helped their community and society; they will be able to think of this person at 11am on Monday 11th November when, as part of our special Remembrance commemoration, we have a bugler playing 'The Last Post' and a special 2 minute silence.
