Active learning in the MYP

Active learning is a learning process where students actively or experientially participate. As opposed to passive learning, students are encouraged to enquire, investigate, and create as part of their learning. This is an essential part of inquiry-based learning. At the heart of it, we ask students to take ownership of what they are learning.

As an example of active learning, I would like to share our Grade 7 I&S class where they have been learning about the Middle Ages. They have worked on a topic of their choice (black death, doomsday book, the crusades, golden age of Islam, and feudalism) in groups, and created a poster, which they will use to communicate their understanding.
