A lovely summer evening in central London was the backdrop for the ISL graduation ceremony for the Diploma College class of 2019. Events were opened by Mr Parker, who spoke of the fluidity and change that awaits our graduates as they take their next steps into the world.
Priyanka Mogul, Alumni Coordinator, introduced this year's guest speaker - Dr Giulia di Clemente (ISL class of 2009). Giulia spoke movingly of the trials and challenges of transferring to a new country with a new language and a new education system, and of how the ISL community reached out to support her. She also spoke of the academic challenges she overcame in her personal learning journey to become a practising psychotherapist.
Mr Spinks, Head of Student Welfare introduced the tutors – Dr Meziane, Ms Williams and Mr Danby - who shared fond and fun memories of their groups, and then invited the graduating class to the stage to receive their High School Diploma from Mr Rose, Secondary Principal.
While the evening marks everyone’s achievement, special awards are given for outstanding achievements too. This year the awards were:
Sham and Nyfa, this year’s student valedictorians, then gave their response; we heard how they had grown and learnt from the experience of the last two years, and how proud they felt of their achievements. They thanked their teachers, but also (and most importantly) their parents.
Finally, Mr Morris thanked the PTA representatives Mrs Machado and Mrs Giachetti with bouquets, and closed the ceremony with some reflections about similarities that are different: age and experience, education and qualification.
A huge congratulations to the class of 2019 – and see you in the very near future!
