Festival of Lights - Celebrating our global community

Every December, our Festival of Lights is a highlight at the end of the calendar year. This special event brings together students, staff and parents in a celebration of our global community. With the key themes of unity, diversity, culture and inspire, our 2023 festival showcased the incredible talents of ISL’s students, with many of the performances created and written by the students themselves.

Held across multiple stages within the school, there was an exciting programme including acrobatic acts, Shakespearean monologues, poetry in native languages, mindfulness sessions and music recitals, reflecting a rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives. The MYP Pop-up Festival provided captivating performances including the ISL Theatre Company, and slam poetry sessions written by students to express their thoughts on relevant topics such as mental health, equality, sustainability, and wellbeing.

Inspired by the film The Polar Express, the PYP Festival of Lights musical show transported the audience on a magical journey. This immersive experience, underpinned by the students' learning experiences and explorations of London culture, illustrated how cultural identities and celebrations can unite us all. By sharing their stories through performance, the event encouraged students to further develop vital skills such as communication, creativity and cultural awareness, which are increasingly vital in the modern world.
