ISL Teacher Shortlisted for the German Embassy Teacher of the Year Award
We are proud to announce that, Biljana Todorova, our German ISL Mother Tongue teacher, was very recently shortlisted for 'The German Teacher Award'. Held as part of an annual event attended by over 220 teachers and representatives from the education and language teaching sectors, business and media from all over the UK, the award was even more special as it was celebrating its 15th year!
Thanks to Biljana being shortlisted, ISL was invited to attend the very special award ceremony at the Residence of the German Ambassador in London where the best and most committed champions of German in primary and secondary schools across the UK are recognised and receive tributes.
The novelist Ian McEwan CBE, key note speaker of the ceremony, was introduced by the German ambassador to the UK, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Tania Freiin von Uslar-Gleichen . He really surprised the audience by holding his speech in German. McEwan has a special relationship with German through his childhood and family history, as well as his close ties with several prominent German writers. In his speech he stressed the real importance of communication between cultures.
McEwan presented awards in the main category, followed by the Special Commendation Awards, as well as the Lifetime Achievement and Peter Boak Award. We are extremely proud to report that Biljana Todorova received a Special Commendation for being an inspirational teacher. We celebrated with traditional German food and beer within the Embassy's stunning house and gardens.
