Julian Opie exhibition at Pitzhanger Manor
Grade 7 students visited Walpole Park last Friday to see an exhibition featuring the works of Julian Opie, and take part in a workshop to create a collage inspired by his artwork.
In class, they have been investigating the use of lines and contouring to create tones, form, and movement in their artwork. Students reflected on their educational visit – here’s what they had to say:
“I enjoyed the installation (of buildings painted on walls to mimic a town) because it felt like I was about to walk through a painting.”
“We learnt that (Julian Opie) only uses outlines for most of his work. His lines are usually thick and sometimes coloured. He uses plain colours without texture to fill in his work.”
“I learned that his work is so simple. He uses few lines and few colours.”
“I like Julian Opie’s use of lines – they are not straight or round, but curvy.”
